Biographical history
Born in 1859, Hill was a local photographer who purchased the Hill photography studio from his father Joseph in 1883. He married Inez Moore in 1883 and had one child in 1884 - St. Cloud State faculty member Helen Hill.
Hill passed away on March 22, 1936 and buried in St. Cloud's North Star Cemetery.

- The first Lawrence Hall, named after long-time faculty member Isabel Lawrence, opened in 1885 as a dormitory for women. It was destroyed by fire in 1905. The new Lawrence Hall was built on the same spot as the first building.
