This series contains fieldwork forms, artifact accession logs, bag lists, maps, notes, and correspondence relating to the various excavations at 21MO20. Please note: this series is very closely related to group 2, series 10: LEHP sites (boxes 15-16). This series contains more fieldwork while series 10 focuses on research and interpretation, but each series provides context for the other. See also record group 1, series 7: field journals (boxes 3-4).

This series includes fieldwork, research, and interpretive material for all LEHP archaeological sites, including 21MO20. See also: group 2, series 1: 21MO20 (fieldwork and artifact records from 21MO20), and group 3, series 6: LEHP (IMA files regarding administration of the LEHP).

This series contains some of the oldest records in the collection, dating to Birk’s teenage activities in the late 1950s. These files are information-rich but somewhat more chaotic than other series. Especially notable are Birk’s correspondence and interview notes with older community members, preserving a unique record of local history. Records of Birk’s later involvement with this project are largely digital, consisting of photographs and LiDAR maps.

Records include numerous drafts of the manuscript "Purveyors of Salvation" in both paper and digital formats, project-related correspondence, and a large collection of photocopied or transcribed archival records, the source documents of the publication. The archival collections come from a variety of sources including the Minnesota Historical Society and the private research collections of other historians, as discussed in the introduction to "Purveyors." Birk's annotations and research notes are interspersed throughout.

Records include IMA mound investigations; project planning material; various articles in relation to mounds; archaeological reports; site, survey, inventory and National Register forms; pamphlets; early mound observations by J. V. Brower and personal accounts; maps, slides and photos; memos, notes and newspaper clippings; and Aborigines of Minnesota sources. Additionally, there are material that do not relate directly to mounds including Minnesota History magazines, Indian fish trap sources, excavation methods essays, and Minnesota shipwreck studies.

Records include correspondence, project planning, and fieldwork from various IMA projects at Old Wadena County Park.

Records include project-related correspondence and assorted primary and secondary research material. Most prominent are several hundred pages of photocopies and transcriptions of the Charles P. Daly papers, in both paper and digital formats.
