Content and structure elements

Scope and content

The Chronicle is a student published newspaper at St. Cloud State University. A wide variety of topics are covered including campus events, athletics, and people, as well as the St. Cloud community itself.

Times published per year varied over time, from twice a month to twice a week to once a month. The last printed issue dates was in April 2017, but printing of a physical issue began again in March 2019 and ended in March 2020. Issues were then born digital until April 2021. As of the spring of 2024, the Chronicle is entirely online.

Series four contains negatives, contact sheets, and photographs that appeared in each issue of the Chronicle from 1970 to 1990. Only a very small number of images appeared in each issue, yet there are images from a story that were not used or for images that did not make the final copy of the Chronicle.

System of arrangement

The Chronicle is arranged in four separate series.

Series 1. Reference copy (1924-2010+)

Arranged chronologically by academic year, this is the most complete run of the Chronicle. Most years are bound as a book. Since 2004/05, the newspaper is not bound.

Series 2. Archives copy (1924-2010+)

Arranged chronologically by academic year, this series contains additional copies of the Chronicle. Though there are a few years missing (but are represented in Series 1), this run of the Chronicle is fairly complete. There are sometimes more than one copy of each year and are noted in the finding aid.

Series 3. Microfilm copy (1924-1994)

Arranged chronologically, this series contains microfilm copies of the Chronicle that date from 1924 to 1994.

Series 4. Photographs and Negatives (1970-1999)

Arranged by issue and then by individual story for each issue, negatives, contact sheets, and photographs for the Chronicle from 1970 to 1999. Personal names and buildings, if present for the story, are included to make the material more accessible.

Records are located at 53E.1-11, 53D.1-11, 1E.1-11, 1F.1-11, 1G.1-6, 21C.3b-7f, 21D.1a-6a, and 21G.2a-b.
